Sandy Hook Beach, NJ



Located on a thin peninsula that juts into lower New York Harbor, Sandy Hook is a popular summer destination on the Jersey Shore.  Sandy Hook has expansive ocean and bay beaches for swimming, sunbathing, fishing & more!  Here are a few reasons Why We Love Sandy Hook Beach!


Location, location, location:  Sandy Hook is just minutes from Garden State Parkway Exit 117, and RT 36, located in Highlands, NJ.   Seastreak offers visitors a high speed ferry to Sandy Hook from Manhattan.  From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, they offer complimentary shuttle service between the Sandy Hook Ferry Landing and several beaches within Sandy Hook.

The View!  Sandy Hook offers some of the most spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as, daytime and nighttime views of New York City.


Woof! Woof!  Gateway National Park at Sandy Hook is a 'dog friendly' beach on the Inlet side of the Hook.

Beach Chair  & Umbrella Rentals:  H.H. Hut is a concession stand that offers daily beach chair and umbrella rentals at multiple beach areas within Sandy Hook.  There are also several food trucks where you can grab some great beach eats Memorial Day thru Labor Day.  All you need to do is bring yourself and relax!

Gunnison!  Gunnison Beach located @ lot G is New Jersey's only legal clothing-optional beach. (Yes. Nude!)

Summer Cocktails & Eats:  In the vicinity of Sandy Hook are local towns of Sea Bright, Highlands,  Atlantic Highlands, and Rumson, where there are a host of bars and restaurants from which to choose. Many establishments offer live music from the areas best local bands.

Historic Landmark: "In 1895, the U.S. Army renamed the "Fortifications at Sandy Hook" as Fort Hancock.  The installation would protect New York Harbor from invasion by sea."  "The fort was decommissioned on December 31, 1974. Since then, most of Fort Hancock has served the public as the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. The remainder of the peninsula serves as U.S. Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook." Sandy Hook Lighthouse: Built in 1764, the light aided mariners entering the southern end of the New York Harbor. Lighthouse tours are offered first-come first served, from 1 PM to 4:30 PM. The  Lighthouse Keepers Quarters/ Visitor Center is open 9 AM to 4 PM daily.

So Much To Do and See!  Swimming, Sunbathing, Fishing, Biking, Kayaking, Camping, Hiking, Biking, Birding, Boating, Kiteboarding and  Picnics.  Lifeguards are on duty from 10 am to 6 pm from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day at ocean side beaches.
